Don L. Volk, 81, of Ingraham, died at 8:15 p.m., Saturday, February 5, 2011 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
He was born October 19, 1929 in Clay County, to Anton and Catherine (Kuenstler) Volk. He married Arlene Kocher on April 5, 1956 at Stringtown.
He was a retired farmer, a U.S. Army Korean veteran, and his memberships include Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wendelin, Knights of Columbus in Newton, and the St. Marie American Legion Post. Don enjoyed the simple things in life, being outside, his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife: Arlene Volk of Ingraham; children: Ervan Volk and wife Cindy of Newton, Christine Adams and husband Jim of Effingham, Walter Volk and wife Bonne of Ingraham, Sheila Moore and husband Kevin of Chatham; two sisters: Sister Antoinette Volk of Donaldson, Ind., Ethel Zwilling and husband Herman of Claremont; eight grandchildren: Justin, Kurt and Kelly Volk / Kimberly and Bradly Adams / Landon, Lauren and Lance Volk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Janet, three brothers (Virgil, Anton and Louis Volk), and sister Sister Loretta Volk.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Wendelin, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 tot 8 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church and also after 9 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at the church.
Frank & Bright Funeral Home, Flora, is in charge of arrangements.
